LEONARD H. LAAKER, 91

Leonard H. Laaker, 91, of Blair, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Leonard Herman Laaker was born July 22, 1912, on a farm northeast of Arlington to William and Lena (Schiermeyer) Laaker. He was baptized, confirmed and attended parochial school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

On Nov. 16, 1938, he married Rozella Echtenkamp at Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Fremont.

He farmed in the Arlington and Kennard vicinity for a number of years. After moving to Blair, Mr. Laaker was a car mechanic and, in 1960, he accepted a job as an operator of the City Light Plant. He worked for the City of Blair for more than 20 years. He joined Trinity Lutheran Church and has been a member there for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Rozella; son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Mary Ann Laaker of Bennington; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Larry Leehy of Fairview, Texas; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother, Obert Laaker, Bennington; and one sister, Carol Jensen, Fremont. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Albert, Lawrence and William Laaker; four sisters, Emma Stork, Alvina Thompson, Melinda Laaker and Annie Dickmeyer.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
