Former Washington County resident, Elmer P. Andersen, 90, of Elwood, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with interment in the Blair Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Campbell-Aman.

Elmer Peter Andersen was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Kennard to Hans M. and Sarah (Jensen) Andersen.

He graduated from Blair High School in 1929. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served on the USS Pennsylvania and the USS Sergeant Bay in the Pacific theater from 1942 until 1945.

In 1937, he married J. Marian Cooper, the couple had two sons. This marriage ended in 1954. In 1969, he married Anna V. Tegtmeier; she preceded him in death in 1996.

In 1962, Mr. Andersen pioneered a new Christmas tree plantation business in Washington County, and continued selling his "choose and cut" pine trees until retiring and moving from the farm in 1994. In 1997, he moved to Callaway and in 1999, he moved to Elwood.

Mr. Andersen became a Master Mason in 1939, and received his 60-year pin in August 1999. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Odd Fellows, the Riverview Grange and the Danish Brotherhood.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. red W. and Pat Andersen of Elwood, and David B. and Imelda Andersen of Fallon, Nev., sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Howard Larsen of Herman, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, sistger, Opal, and nephew.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
