Wallace G. “Rick” Ray

Funeral services for Wallace G. “Rick” Ray were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at his home in Tobias.

Mr. Ray died June 21 while mowing his land in rural Tobias. It is believed that Mr. Ray, driving a Ford tractor and pulling a rotary mower, caught one of the tractor’s front tires on an embankment while making a turn. The tractor became unbalanced and rolled.

Wallace G. “Rick” Ray was the son of the late Walter G. Ray and Marie Ray of Blair. He served in Vietnam from 1965 until 1967, where he earned numerous military honors, including the Purple Heart.

Tobias residents knew Mr. Ray primarily from his work on his farm west of Tobias. His family notes that he transformed the property into something beautiful, including orchards, a large pond and many bushes. He was very proud of his farm, kept it all mowed, and loved to work outside. His family remembers him as “a good guy, everyone liked him”.

He is survived by his mother, Marie Ray of Blair; a brother, Zane Ray, sisters, Alice Ray Ross and Sue Ann Ray Wagle.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Ray.
