Jenney M. Shively, 79

Jenney M. Shively, 79, of Blair, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, in Omaha.

A Celebration of Life service will be 5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Country Bible Church. It is requested that ladies wear hats to honor her memory. There will be no visitation. A private interment is planned.

Jenney Marie Drew was born in Omaha, the adopted and only daughter of Benjamin and Pearl Drew of north Omaha.

She graduated from the Pratt School for Individualized Learning and married Fredrick James Shively, also of Omaha.

After their children were born, the family moved to join Mr. Shively's parents and other family members in Norco, Calif.

In 1973, the couple moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to live with their daughter, Kathy, and her husband, Chuck. It was during this time in Texas that Mrs. Shively began her career working as a private caregiver.

They later moved back to California where their two youngest sons, Ben and Larry, lived.

Mr. Shively died in May 1978, after 32 years of marriage.

A few months later, Mrs. Shively moved to Detroit, Mich., to be near her daughter and family. She enjoyed her 24 years of life in Michigan working as a private caregiver for wealthy elderly people. It was during her time in Michigan that she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Martin Road Gospel Chapel.

It was at Martin Road Gospel Chapel that she developed her penchant for wearing beautiful hats. So, for nearly 35 years, she collected hats in every color and style and had hats for every occasion and outfit.

She retired in 2002 and returned to her home state of Nebraska to live near Kathy and Chuck and two grandsons.

She was a kid at heart and loved horsing around. Twice, she broke her ankle trying to have fun with the kids. She enjoyed having animals around so the family always had dogs, cats, birds, and even a pet cow.

She was very proud of each of her children and bragged about them to anyone who would listen. She enjoyed making new friends and never knew a stranger. She will be remembered for her gift of hospitality, cheerfulness and ability to tease.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Mike and Cindy Shively of Savannah, Ga., Kathy and Chuck Larsen of Blair and Ben Shively and Larry Shively of Corona, Calif.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, John B. Shively of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick J. Shively.
