James O. "Jim" Scheer, 72

James O. "Jim" Scheer, 72, of Fremont, an Arlington native, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at his home.

Services were Monday, July 9, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Interment was in Memorial Cemetery.

James O. Scheer was born on January 21, 1940, to Otis and Meta (Scheer) Scheer in Arlington.

He grew up on the family farm near Arlington. He was a 1957 graduate of Arlington High School.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1964. On his return from the service, he began his employment with Valmont and retired after 40 years in 2004.

On May 7, 1960, he married Lila Peters at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Jin Scheer of St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Janno Scheer and significant other, Lawrie, of Hawaii, LaRae Scheer and fiancé, Alfredo Monjarez, of Fremont and Sherrie and husband Andrew Stough of Centerton, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Orvin and Joann Scheer of Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, in February of 2010, and by a son, Kelly, in November of 1989.
