Sharon K. Schmit, 58

A Mass of Christian burial for Sharon Schmit, 58, of Selby, S.D. was held Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selby. Fr. Paul Pathiyamoola officiated. Interment was in the All Saints Catholic Church Cemetery in Andover, S. D.

Mrs. Schmit died Sunday, March 16, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen, S.D. due to natural causes.

Sharon K. Schmit was born Aug. 2, 1944, in Bristol, SD to Bernard and Katherine (Heintzman) Zimmerman. She grew up in Andover and graduated from high school in 1962.

On January 26, 1963 she married Rodney Schmit at the All Saints Catholic Church in Andover. After their marriage they lived in numerous places across the United States. Rodney worked for the Chicago-Milwaukee and the St. Paul Pacific Railroad and as a Federal Railroad Inspector.

From 1983 until 1997 they made their home in Blair until retiring, then moved to Selby.

In April of 2000, Mrs. Schmit was diagnosed with cancer. She always had the outlook of taking each day as it came and hoped to survive her cancer battle, in which she fought a good battle p until the end.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and an active member of the Selby Area Cancer Support Group. She enjoyed playing bingo, scrabble, reading, working on crossword puzzles and putting jigsaw puzzles together.

She is survived by her husband Rodney of Selby; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Amy Schmit of Papillion, Nebraska; one grandson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris Fife of Walla Walla, Wash., and Pat and Dick Gooding of Aberdeen, SD; one brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Paulette Zimmerman of Aberdeen, SD; four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Donald, and three infant children.
