ENOCH LADD RITES TUESDAY

LIFETIME RESIDENT OF THE COUNTY, BLAIRITE DIED THURSDAY AT AGE 78

In failing health the past four years and bedfast since Thanksgiving time, 78-year-old Enoch E. Ladd died last Thursday evening at his home on East Park St.

Lifelong resident of Washington county, he had been in turn a farmer, blacksmith and railroad man.

Funeral services were conducted at the Bendorf Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. D.D. Kennedy of First Baptist church officiated, and interment followed in Blair Cemetery.

Son of Hiram and Malinda Ladd, he was born July 26, 1868, at Fontanelle, where he grew to manhood. He and Mabel Pease were married Feb. 19, 1902. For four years they lived on a farm near Fontanelle, then came to Blair, their home for the ensuing 41 years.

The Ladds were the parents of nine children, one of whom, a daughter, died in infancy.

Surviving Mr. Ladd are his wife, Mabel; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Bartlett of El Monte, Calif.; Mrs. Alice Gustin of Blair and Mrs. Anna Clark of Twin Falls, Idaho; and five sons, Floyd Ladd of Gary, Ind., Howard, Earl and Curtis Ladd of Los Angeles, and Leonard Ladd of Blair. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Anna Barnes of Newberry, Calif.; two brothers, George of Newberry, Calif., and John of Winslow; 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Enoch E. Ladd, son of Hiram and Malinda Ladd, was born July 26, 1868 at Fontanelle where he grew to manhood. He was married to Mabel Pease on February 19, 1902. To this union nine children were born, four girls and five boys. One girl died in infancy.

The first four years of their married life was spent on a farm near Fontanelle and then they moved to Blair where they have made their home for the past 41 years. Mr. Ladd worked at the blacksmith trade for a number of years and worked for about 20 years on the railroad.

The last four years he was in failing health and has been bedfast since Thanksgiving. He passed away at his home Thursday evening, March 20th.

He was a good father and friend and will be missed by relatives and neighbors.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and three daughters: Margaret Barlett of Elmonte, California; Alice Gustin of Blair; and Anna Clark of Twin Falls, Idaho; and five sons: Floyd of Gary, Indiana; Howard, Earl and Curtis of Los Angeles, California; and Leonard of Blair; twenty four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Barnes of Newbury, California; two brothers, George of Newbury, California; and John of Winslow, Nebraska, besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. last Tuesday from the Bendorf Funeral Home with Rev. D. D. Kennedy officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
