Kenneth Wachter, 52, Died Sunday After Brief Illness

Kenneth B. Wachter, well known community leader of the Herman vicinity, died Sunday, February 5th after a brief illness. He was 52 years old. He had filled many posts in community organizations and was a faithful worker for many things of community betterment.

He was born June 25, 1914, the second of four sons born to Ethel and Ben Wachter of Herman. He graduated from the Herman High School in 1931 and went on to attend Wayne State College at Wayne, Nebraska.

After working for several years for the Farm Security Administration, he enlisted in the Navy in April of 1942. He served as a Pharmacist’s Mate, First Class in the South Pacific during World War II. He received his discharge November 8, 1945.

Kenneth was married to Harriet Wilson on June 15, 1946, and to this union two children were born; a daughter, Mrs. Keith Andersen (Patricia), of Herman and a son, Keith.

At the time of his death Kenneth was office manager of Tyson’s Incorporated.

Kenneth was Past Master of Landmark Lodge No. 222, AF&AM, serving in 1951; a member of Royal Arch Masons, Adoniram Chapter, at Blair; Past Patron, Herman Chapter No. 216, O.E.S. for two different terms. He served on the school board of the Herman Public Schools since 1952. Since the Memorial Community Hospital was built in 1957, Kenneth has served as president of the board of directors. He has also served as president of the Washington County redistricting Board and was active in the Herman Community Club, American Legion and Herman Industrial Development Corporation.

Kenneth Wachter passed away Sunday, February 5, 1967, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ben, and two brothers, Roland and James.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet: one daughter, Mrs. Keith Andersen (Patricia) and son, Keith; his mother, Mrs. Ben Wachter, and brother, Leo, of Minneapolis, besides a host of relatives and friends. His passing will be a great loss to this community where he gave so many hours of service and dedication to its betterment.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Legion Hall in Herman, Nebraska, with burial in the Herman Cemetery. Masonic and military honors were conferred at the grave. The Rev. Thomas Vaughn conducted the services.
