#2-20 Sept., 1905 - Blair Courier - Mary Ann (Wainwright) Wadsworth

At her home on West Grant street at 10:15 Saturday evening, Sept. 16th, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary (Wainwright) Wadsworth. Some two years ago Mrs. Wadsworth suffered a paralytic stroke from which she never fully recovered. She was born June 29th, 1825 at Newark, England, and her age was at the time of her death, eighty years, two months and eighteen days. She came to America when she was eighteen years of age, and was married Sept. 28, 1845 at Buffalo, New York to Mr. John G. Wadsworth. Of this union were born two sons and two daughters, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. A. A. Wilcox of Zunbrota, Minn.; Charles W. Wadsworth of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. W. M. Martin of Blair, Neb.; and John G. Wadsworth of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mrs. Wadsworth came west with her husband in 1852. They came to Nebraska and settled in Blair where Mrs. Wadsworth died Sept. 22, 1900. She was a woman of unusual intelligence and refinement, and hers was a strong, noble, Christian character. As a loving and devoted wife and mother, she wielded a mighty influence for good and the world is distinctly better for her having lived. Mrs. Wadsworth commanded the respect and love of all who knew her and the untiring devotion of her children is an eloquent tribute to the truth and beauty and worth of genuine motherhood. Mrs. Wadsworth was for many years a faithful and beloved member of the local Congregational church.

The funeral service was held at the Wadsworth home at 3:30 o’clock Monday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. J. Wallace Larkin, formerly pastor of the local Congregational church, assisted by the present pastor, Rev. A. G. Axtell. This was in accordance with a promise made to the deceased several years ago. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
