Pilot 20 Feb. 1918

George William Colwill Taylor was born at St. Pierre, Island of Guernsey, England, on November 15, 1824, and died at the home of his son, A. J. Taylor, in Blair, Nebraska, on February 17, 1918, being at the time of his death 93 years, 3 months and 2 days of age.

He came to this country with his parents at the age of ten years. In 1842, when he was 17, he entered Granville College (Now Denison University) at Granville, Ohio, was graduated and later ordained to the ministry in the Baptist denomination.

On March 18, 1847, he was married to Mary C. Waterman at Georgetown, Ohio. Seven children were born to them, two daughters dying in infancy.

He leaves surviving him, three sons and two daughters: Ohio W. Taylor of New Bremen, Ohio: Mrs. Ellen Higgins, of West Union, Ohio; and A. J., H. B. and Melita, of Blair, Nebr.

During his college days he became a Christian and was baptized in 1843. He spent several years teaching in the public schools, then having felt that he was called to the ministry, accepted his first pastorate in 1856, being ordained the following year. Rev. Mr. Taylor held ten pastorates in Ohio and two in Nebraska. He organized the church at Brewster, Nebr., of which one of our own boys, Rev. Gustav Meissner, is now pastor. He was pastor of the Baptist Church of Blair for three years, 1878 to 1881, and was in active ministry nearly sixty years.

The funeral was held at the residence of A. J. Taylor at 2:30 on Tuesday, Feb. 19, Rev. C. M. Foreman, officiating.
