H. B. TAYLOR RITES

Henry B. Taylor, one of the oldest citizens of Blair, passed away at his home on East Nebraska Street on June 28, 1941 at the ripe old age of 82 years, 11 months and 2 days.

He was a native of Ohio and came to Blair in 1878. He and his brother, A. J. Taylor, came in a one horse covered wagon. Being favorably impressed with the thriving little city and its surrounding country, they decided to settle here.

He became a registered pharmacist in 1887, and for years was a partner in the firm know as Palmer and Taylor which occupied the building where the Blair Drug Co. now does business. He was also in business in Fort Calhoun where he was also the postmaster and at one time the mayor.

For many years he was an active member in the Knights of Pythias, holding offices in the same. He was also active in the Fraternal Union as long as it was carried on here.

He united with the Baptist church of Blair in 1883, he and his sister, Melita, being baptized by their father, Rev. George W. Taylor, pastor of the church at that time. When health permitted he was always active in the work of the church, having served as Sunday School superintendent for more than eleven years, as clerk for many years and as deacon during the later years of his life.

He had been in feeble health for several years, but able to be about and to take care of the chores around the premises. During the past several months he gradually lost strength until he was suddenly called last Saturday.

Surviving him are his sister, Melita Taylor, who was his faithful nurse during his illness, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist church with Rev. C. E. Hamilton in charge, and burial conducted by J. E. Campbell was made in the Blair cemetery.
