MAN, 44, KILLED IN FALL

DONALD LAKE, AN EX-BLAIRITE, DIES IN A FIVE-STORY PLUNGE IN OMAHA

WAS WORKING ON NEW BUILDING

A former Blair man was instantly killed Friday when he fell five stories from a building under construction in Omaha.

He was Donald H. Lake, 44, an employee of the Owen Equipment and Erection Co. Mr. Lake was working on the fifth-floor level of the new Northern Natural Gas Company Building, 2311 Dodge Street.

A fellow workman said he and Mr. Lake were securing a beam which had just been put in place. Suddenly one end of the beam gave way and dropped Mr. Lake. Mr. Lake made no outcry. He landed on a wooden platform in the excavation around the building, about eight feet below sidewalk level and about 75 feet below the point where he had been working.

Mr. Lake is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Shirley; and a son, Donald, Jr. Brothers include Albert Lake of Blair and Edward Lake of Grand Island. There are five sisters, Mrs. Nels Christensen of Kennard, Mrs. Allen Allenbeck of Omaha, Mrs. William Brobst of Portland, Ore., Mrs. George Wethers of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Carl Akins, Goodridge, Minn.

Services were held in Omaha Monday, burial following in Blair Cemetery.
