PIONEER’S SUDDEN DEATH

DIETRICH LALLMAN DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS AT HOSPITAL

RESIDENT OF COUNTY MANY YEARS

CAME TO BLAIR WITH FAMILY TO CELEBRATE FOURTH AND WAS SUDDENLY STRICKEN

On the evening of the Fourth, after eating a hearty supper, Dietrich Lallman, a well-known farmer, living a mile and a half west of Telbasta, complained to his son-in-law, with whom he was conversing over near the railroad park, of feeling dizzy, and was taken into Vic Wolff’s place, nearby to get a drink of water but collapsed and was removed to the hospital and a physician summoned. But the physician’s ministrations were unavailing and death came at 10 o’clock Sunday evening, little more than twenty-four hours from the time he was stricken.

Deceased had come over to Blair with members of his family to celebrate and was in the enjoyment of perfect health. He was 62 years of age and had enjoyed good health all his life.

Mr. Lallman was a native of Germany and came direct to Nebraska with his parents in 1868 settling in Washington county. In the early 70’s he was married to Wiebka Ruff, a sister of George and Hans Ruff, of Dodge county. Mrs. Lallman died eight years ago. Mr. Lallman is survived by six daughters, Miss Louise Lallman, Fontanelle; Mrs. George Stuenkel, Washington county; Mrs. August Stuenkel, Nickerson; Mrs. Otto Ruwe, Blair; Miss Amelia and Miss Matilda of Fontanelle, and three sons, Gottlieb, Diedrich and George, of Fontanelle. A sister, Mrs. Casper Stork, is among the close surviving relatives.

Mr. Lallman retired from active life several years ago and has been making his home on his farm three and one-half miles north-east of Fontanelle with his three daughters and three sons. He was one of the large land-owners of Washington county and owned a number of farms in Dodge county near Nickerson and Winslow.

The remains were buried in the family lot by the side of his wife in the Telbasta cemetery, the funeral being held at the family home, Rev. Mr. Land, of Winslow, preaching the funeral sermon on Thursday.

The evening of the 4th took on a very sad tinge for the Dietrich Lallman family, who live over near Telbasta but were here celebrating. At about 8 o’clock Mr. Lallman and his son, George, were walking over to the park from the Wolff corner, when he became suddenly dizzy and soon became unconscious from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was taken to the hospital and died at 10:30 Sunday night. The funeral will be held Thursday at the farm home, Rev. Lang of Winslow, officiating. He was born in Westphallen, Germany, May 13th, 1861 and came to this country with his parents, who settled on the farm where he spent the balance of his life.

He was married to Miss Wiebke Ruff 34 years ago the 12th of last March, whose death occurred eight years ago. He is survived by eight children, Mrs. Geo. And Mrs. August Stuenkel, Mrs. Otto Ruwe, Amelia, Gottlieb, Mathilda, Dietrich and George. He was one of the many prosperous German farmers of that side of the county and leaves his large family a goodly amount of property as well as a good name.
