James F. Grimit, 96

James F. Grimit, 96, of Blair, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the chapel at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.

Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. An Odd Fellow service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James F. Grimit was born June 16, 1906, at Bedison, Mo., to Jesse and Ellen (Weaver) Grimit. He attended school in St. Joseph, Mo. For a number of years he worked for numerous farmers, following the wheat harvest. He also did construction work.

In the 1920s, he moved to Omaha, where he worked for the Ford Motor Plant and Roberts Dairy as a milk delivery man. In 1940, he went to work for the Omaha Street Car Company, retiring in 1971.

In 1972, he moved to Blair. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge No. 394, of Omaha.

After his retirement, he began oil painting and many of his works were displayed at his son’s restaurant in Blair.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Ray Ryder of Blair, and Laura and Donald Orris of Littleton, Colo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence Grimit, and Richard and Mary Grimit, all of Omaha, and Robert and Patricia Grimit of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by a son, James F. Jr., two brothers and a sister.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
