Bill Grimm Died Here Wednesday

Had Been Invalid For Five Years Following Accident

Wilhelm “Bill” Grimm, 56 year-old Blair man, died at his home at 306 West Colfax Street in Blair Wednesday morning. An invalid for the past five years; he had been in failing health for some time as a result of complications which set in following his invalidism.

He was born at Buffalo Gap, South Dakota, May 11, 1902, moving from there to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

On October 5, 1928, he was married to Miss Louise Mathiesen, of Blair, and they have made their home here for the past 26 years. To this marriage was born a son, Paul, and a daughter, Janet.

In June, 1953, he met with an accident which contributed to his early death and five years as an invalid. He had taken his son, Paul, to work at the boatyards of the Kelly Ryan Equipment Co. near the Blair Bridge on the banks of the Missouri River, and while there climbed up on a steel barge to see the progress which had been made in the work. In some manner he slipped from the steel deck and fell 15 feet to the ground, landing on a pile of steel rails in such a manner that he broke his back. He had been unable to walk since the accident.

He is survived by his wife, Louise, his son, Paul, of Peoria, Illinois, his daughter, Janet, now Mrs. Lee Smith of Burlingame, California, a granddaughter and his mother, Mrs. T. G. Grimm, of Spirit Lake, Iowa. A brother, Sterling Grimm lives at Estherville, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Edith Malone, of Evanston, Ill.

Requiem Mass will be held Friday at 10 A.M. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and funeral services will be held at the church at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Father Samuel Elliston officiating. Interment will be made in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary of Blair.
