EVELYN S. LAMBERTZ, 90

Evelyn S. Lambertz, 90, of Blair, died March 8, 2004, at Crowell Memorial Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitatiion will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Evelyn S. Lambertz was born March 27, 1913, in Crete to Ida Bilhorne and Rolland Glee Spadt. She graduated from Crete High School in 1931. She attended Doane College for two years and attended summer school at the University of Nebraska, Wesleyan and Dana College.

She taught in a rural school near Crete for one year, then went to Leigh, where she taught first and second grades for four years. She moved to Blair in 1939 and taught first and second grades at North School for six years. She worked 14 years at the city clerk’s office, followed by 14 years at the gas office, until she retired.

She married Wayne H. Lambertz on May 29, 1942. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1992.

She was a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women’s Society, where she had served as treasurer as well as other offices. At Crete, she taught the kindergarten Sunday School class. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and held offices in that organization.

Mrs. Lambertz belonged to and held offices in Eastern Star Kensington. She was a member of the Blair Federated Club, Blair Civic Club, National Retired Teacher’s Association, and Phi Sigma Tau Society at Doane College. She was chairman of the polio fund one year, and during World War II, she helped roll bandages.

She is survived by her niece and husband, Sally and Mervin Fleming of Bend, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Janet Lambertz of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Evelyn Hopkins of Federal Way, Wash., and brother-in-law, Clyde Lambertz of Goodland, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; a sister, Ruth Taylor, and a brother-in-law, Glenn Lambertz.

Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Eye Research of the Blair Lions Club, or the First United Methodist Church in Blair.
