Robert Grothe, 57

Robert E. “Gene” Grothe, 57, of Tekamah, died suddenly at his Tekamah home on Saturday morning, January 23, 1988.

Gene was born on February 14, 1930, at Tekamah to Robert E. and Gladys L. Grothe.

He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1947 and Hastings College in 1951.

Gene entered the Army in November, 1952, and spent two years serving in Korea.

After returning from Korea, Gene farmed with his father until his father’s death on February 13, 1957, after which Gene farmed alone.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Tekamah.

Gene joined the Baptist Church and served 18 years as a Trustee, seven years as a Deacon, and he taught the men’s Sunday School Class for seventeen years.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Gladys L. Grothe of Tekamah, with whom he made his home; his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Ms. E. G. Sellin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his aunt, Mrs. Harold Grothe of Tekamah; several cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held January 25, 1988, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Victor Crawford officiating.

Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery.
