Clarence Gummus Is Buried Last Week

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 11, at the Methodist Church in Stanton, Nebraska, for Clarence Leo Gummus, 73, who died in Blair on February 8, 1982.

Rev. Eugene Beye of Norfolk conducted the services at Stanton. Rev. Patterson conducted the graveside services at Rosehill Cemetery, west of Blair, where he was buried.

Clarence Leo Gummus was born July 12, 1908, to Olof and Sadie Kolander Gummus in the Beza Community north of Stanton, Nebraska. When he was about one year old, he moved with his parents to Bayard, Nebraska, where he lived until 1925.

He then returned to the family farm in the Beza Community where he farmed and lived the rest of his life. The last two months he lived at his home in Blair.

On December 21, 1947, he married Louise Ziegler of Blair at Altoona, Iowa.

He was very active in community affairs and was an officer of the Beza Cemetery Association. He was also a member of the Stanton County Historical Society, Elkhorn Valley Iris Society, Senior Citizens Association of Stanton, and was a member of the Beza School Board for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; and two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Sabra Louise) Boelter of O’Neill and Megan Margaret Gummus, Blair. One sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Lenora) Walmsley, and one brother, Chester Gummus, both of Norfolk; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Pallbearers were Larry Walmsley, Wesley Walmsley, Arnold Lienemann, Richard Svenson, Howard Schuetz and Duane Hansen.

Ron Coldsen was soloist. Juanita Roberts was organist.
