Rachel E. Gunderson, 76

Services for Rachel E. Gunderson, 76, who died January 25, 1995, at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska, will be Saturday, January 28, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Rev. Jim Wallasky will officiate. Burial will be in the Park Hill Cemetery at Syracuse.

Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday one hour before services at the church.

Rachel E. Gunderson was born March 27, 1918, at Uehling, Nebraska, to Axel and Hazel Honey Sorensen. She married Milo M. Gunderson May 31, 1941, in Reno, Nevada.

She was a teacher and librarian and had taught elementary classes for seven years prior to 1964 when she became librarian in Syracuse. She was in charge of the story hour.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Syracuse. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Alliance and Blair and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Syracuse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Eldon Sorensen and her husband, who died October 17, 1982.

She is survived by three daughters, Diane Bro, Blair; Nina Wardell of Omaha; and Janelle (Mrs. Dennis) Werner of Syracuse; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Eugene Sorensen of Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, and a sister, Delores Berryman of California.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeffrey Bro, Michael Bro, Jay Wardell, Kelly Wardell, Brian Werner and Daryl Werner.

Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Sheryl Chizek, Carrie Bro and Katie Werner.

Betty Sautter will be organist.

Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan center, both of Syracuse.

Fusselman-Wymore-Hammons Funeral Home in Syracuse is in charge of arrangements.
