Fred Guyer, 73, Died In Hospital Near Kenora

Fred Guyer, 73-year-old Blair man died late Friday at a hospital near Kenora, Canada. Mr. Guyer, who was Washington County Treasurer for more than 20 years, was well-known throughout the area.

He was a brother of H. Lyle Guyer, Blair Realtor.

Mr. Guyer became ill while enroute to Kenora for a fishing trip. He and a number of other Blair men were making their annual trip to Kenora where County Judge Jon Stewart and Emery Hunt have cottages. He was riding in a car with Perk Bohs, Clarence Schreiner and Leonard Mathiesen.

He is survived by two daughters, Nadine Bader of California, and Mrs. William (Marilyn) McCormick of Bellevue, Nebraska.

Mr. Guyer, as a young man, was Deputy County Treasurer under the late Charles Robertson. He later became Treasurer, a post which he held for more than 20 years.

After leaving the courthouse, he was associated with the Klopp Printing Co., a firm which manufactures and sells legal supplies. He also served as Acting County Judge during times when the regular judge was on vacation or unable to serve.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.

Last Rites For Fred Guyer Were Wednesday, June 9

Funeral services for Fred Guyer were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Blair.

The deceased, a life-long resident of this community, had died Friday, June 4th at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Canada. He had become ill while on a fishing trip to the Lake of the Woods country in Canada.

Fred M. Guyer was born January 27th, 1903, in Blair, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Guyer, early-day residents of this community. He grew up in Blair, was Deputy County Treasurer and County Treasurer for many years. He was also a printing salesman of legal blanks for an Omaha firm prior to retiring a number of years ago.

His wife, the former Pearl Triplett, preceded him in death. He has been making his home in the Parkside Apartments in southwest Blair.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nadine Bader of Claremont, California and Mrs. Marilyn McCormick of Bellevue, Nebraska. There are eight grandchildren.

A brother H. Lyle Guyer of Blair also survives.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Gordon Patterson, of First Methodist Church and burial under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary. Interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ernest Bohs, Pete DesRosiers, Harry Ohrt, Walter Petersen, Clyde Sappenfield and Jack Chapman.
