Thomas Wakefield

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Thomas Wakefield, 80, a resident of Herman, Nebraska.

He was born August 21, 1886 near Beemer, Nebraska and died November 5th at Community Memorial Hospital in Blair.

He was married to Jennie Cunningham September 20, 1909 at Creston, Iowa and the couple took up farming. They lived near Broken Bow, Nebraska until 1925 when they moved to the Herman vicinity. They continued as farmers until fifteen years ago when they retired to make their home in Herman.

Three sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wakefield. They are Roy of Fremont, Warren of Herman and Marion of Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie, his three sons, a sister, Mrs. Ruth Bates, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A brother, Jay, preceded him in death.

He became a member of the Christian Church at Broken Bow, in 1909 and transferred his membership to the Herman Methodist Church when he moved to the Herman vicinity. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for fifty-two years and was a fifty year member of the Eastern Star. The couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1959. He took an active interest in both civic and church life of the communities in which he lived.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 9th at the Herman Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Vaughn in charge of the service. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery under the direction of Hamel and Peck Mortuary of Tekamah.

Pallbearers were Howard Hansen, Jr., Eugene Husk, George Fitch, John Gregersen, R. Clare Johnson and Allan Yowell. Honorary pallbearers were Claude Clements, of Blair, and Al Jespersen, Chris Korshoj, Henry Truhlsen, Wayne Loftis and John Jackson, all of Herman.
