Harold Walkenhorst, 86

Harold Walkenhorst, 86, of Blair, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Omaha. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Harold Walkenhorst was born Oct 16, 1915, in Arlington to John and Amanda (Goesling) Walkenhorst. He attended Arlington High School, graduating in May of 1934. He moved to Omaha for employment, and worked there until 1940.

He then moved to Middle River, Md., where he worked at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft factory. He returned to Omaha, and was employed at the Martin plant until September of 1943. He then entered the service and was shipped to the South Pacific, where he joined the construction engineers. He remained in the South Pacific for 2 ½ years.

Early in 1946, he returned to the United States. For the next 27 years, he was employed in the retail and wholesale hardware business.

On April 17, 1959, he married Alice Schuelzky in Omaha. The couple lived in Warsaw, Mo., for 14 years before moving to Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; brother, Earl, of Reno, Nev.; sister, Bernita Gilham of Sammanish, Wash.; nephews and spouses, John Walkenhorst of Omaha, Tom and Betty Lou Catron of Omaha, and Bob and Pam Catron of Kennard.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
