Helen Walker, 94

Helen Walker, 94, of Blair, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair. Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 15, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Helen Walker was born April 5, 1907, in Wisner to Peter and Marie (Petersen) Jorgensen. She later moved with her family to Bazille Mills and Winnetoon, Neb. It was at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Winnetoon that Mrs. Walker, as a young woman, played the organ for church services and occasionally sang duets with her sister. Later, while living in Blair, she bought an organ and played for her own enjoyment in her home.

She spent most of her life caring for residents in nursing facilities, both in Omaha and in Blair. She and her husband, Myron, both worked at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair. Mrs. Walker retired from there after 29 years. They gave much of themselves, the things that money cannot pay for. The couple both felt the greatest part of their many years of employment was what they could give in love and service to the residents they cared for.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Richard Johnson of Omaha, three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, a sister, Bertha Scheer of Stevens Point, Wis., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron, sisters and brothers.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or First Lutheran Church.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair was in charge of arrangements.
