The funeral for Neil H. Lang, 82, of Arlington, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Blair.

He died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Pathfinder House in Fremont.

He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Herman, to Ernest and Emma (Pawling) Lang. He grew up in Herman and graduated from Herman High School in 1946. He farmed for a few years and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps April 26, 1951, to April 25, 1954, during the Korean War and held the rank of sergeant. In 1954, he returned to Herman and farmed with his brother and brother-in-law. He married Janet Enger on April 17, 1955, in Blair. In February 1963, he moved to Arlington and farmed until retiring in 2003. He also delivered the Omaha World Herald for 11 years and raised custom hogs until 2009.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 71, past president of VFW Post 8332 and past president of the Veteran’s Club, all at Arlington. He was also a member of the 40 & 8 at Fort Calhoun and was a former school board member at Arlington.

Survivors include: wife, Janet of Arlington; son, Greg (and wife, Lori) Lang of Arlington; daughter, Melissa “Lisa” (and husband, Kevin) Schutt of Arlington; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (and wife, Shirley) Lang of Blair; sisters, Selma Haig of Blair, Fern Krohn of Fremont and Elva Hansen of Blair; and sister-in-law, Arlene Lang of Blair.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and one grandchild.

The Rev. Frank Philipp will officiate Monday’s service. Full military honors will follow the service at the church conducted by the American Legion Post 71 and VFW Post 8332 of Arlington. Visitation will be 3 – 8 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends 3 – 5 p.m. at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will continue Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Arlington Community Fund.

Longtime Arlington Farmer

Neil H. Lang, 82, of Arlington died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Pathfinder House in Fremont. Funeral services will be 10:30 a,m. Monday, April 4, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #71 and V.F.W. Post #8332 of Arlington at the Arlington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 3 at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington with the family.

He also had an Omaha World Herald newspaper route for 11 years. He raised custom hogs until 2009. On April 17, 1955, he married Janet Enger in Blair.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #71 and past president of V.F.W. Post #8332 and past president of the Veteran’s Club all at Arlington and was very involved in these clubs. He was also a member of the 40 & 8 at Fort Calhoun and was a former school board member at Arlington.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Arlington; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Lori Lang of Arlington; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa “Lisa” and Kevin Schutt of Arlington; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Shirley Lang of Blair; sisters, Selma Haig of Blair, Fern Krohn of Fremont, Elva Hansen of Blair; and sister-in-law, Arlene Lang of Blair.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Schutte, Helen Lang and Pearl Brodersen; brother, Harold Lang; and one grandchild, Eric Lang. Memorials may be directed to the Arlington Community Fund.
