MELVIN J. LANGEWISCH, 79

Former Washington County resident Melvin J. Langewisch, 79, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at his home.

A prayer service was held Friday, March 16 at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Interment was at the Hooper Cemetery; the Rev. Robert Kocher officiated.

Melvin J. Langewisch was born June 2, 1921 in rural Hooper (Washington County) to Julius and Emma (Brunton) Langewisch. He grew up there and attended the Hewitt School in Washington County. Mr. Langewisch farmed with his father until moving to Arizona in the 1950s.

He attended the School of the Blind in Little Rock, Ark., in the late 1950s. He worked for various businesses in the Tucson and Phoenix areas. He worked for hotels, and he was a small engine mechanic. He also operated concession stands in federal office buildings in Phoenix.

Mr. Langewisch was married Dec. 27, 1959 to Frances Hewkin in Phoenix. The couple were affiliated with the Lutheran Church in Phoenix. Mrs. Langewisch died following her husband, on March 12, 2001.

Mr. Langewisch is survived by his cousins.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
