ESTHER M. LANGHORST, 97

Esther M. Langhorst, 97, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, in the Hooper Care Center.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 20, at Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle. Interment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, and attended the Timpe School, north of Fontanelle.

She lived and worked with her brother on the family farm, which today has been in the family for more than 100 years. In 1976, she moved to Hooper, where she and her sister, Alma Paeper, made their home for 28 years. In May of 2004, she and her sister moved to Fremont, and lived in Nye Square.

In addition to working on the farm, tending the cows and chickens, she taught piano for about 35 years. She also was the church organist at Salem Lutheran for 66 years, and was playing for Sunday services, weddings and funerals less than a month prior to her death. She also taught Sunday School for 50 years and was active in the church’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Women (ELCW), and was also involved in a garden study group.

She is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Ruth and Rich Brown of Nickerson, and Mary and Bill Drott of Leigh; three great-nieces and their husbands; one great-nephew; two great-great-nieces and two great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Alma; nephew, Robert Paeper; and brother, Wilbert Langhorst.

Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
