Lydia Andersen, 98, of Pioneer Retirement Community Center in Fergus Falls, Minn., died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at the center.

Mrs. Andersen was born March 12, 1899, in Herman to Edward and Elsie (Meyers) Stulgies. She was baptized on May 12, 1899, in Washington County and grew up and worked on the family farm in Neola, Iowa. On April 17, 1918, she married Herman F. Andersen in Neola. They lived on a farm near her parents' farm. They moved to Omaha and then to Blair. In 1955, they moved to Battle Lake, Minn. and in 1961, they moved to Fergus Falls. Since January 1993, she had lived in Fergus Falls at the center. She had worked at the Ottertail Nursing Home and the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Ellen Andersen of Underwood, Minn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Jerry Rowlett of Norfolk, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Marie Hegarty of Omaha and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in September 1977; a brother, Ernest Stulgies; two sisters, Emma Koepke and Clara Dose and a granddaughter, Diana Norgren.
