Whit Wallace Dead at 55

Onetime Blairite Died Feb. 26; Was Farmer in Burt County

J. C. “Whit” Wallace, 55, native and former resident of Blair who had been farming in Burt County during recent years, died last Wednesday morning at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

He had been ill a year. In a hospital last September, he had been confined to bed at the home of a brother in Omaha for three weeks before entering the hospital again Feb. 22.

Funeral services were held at the Campbell Mortuary here at 2 p.m. Saturday. Nephews were pallbearers.

Born near Blair, Mr. Wallace once farmed here, then, operated a farm near Tekamah before moving to the Bertha community.

Surviving Mr. Wallace are his wife; his mother, Mrs. Jennie Wallace; four children, James, Lela, Lillian and Jennie, all at home; and several brothers and sisters.

James Crawford Wallace was born north of Blair, Nebraska September 3, 1892, and died February 26, 1947 at Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 22 days. He was the son of Frank and Jennie Wallace.

He was married to Miss Hilda Dohse on September 1, 1926 at Council Bluffs, Ia. To this union was born four children, one son, James; three daughters, Lela, Lillian and Jenny, all at home. He also leaves to mourn his death his mother, Mrs. Jennie Wallace, three brothers, Guy, Frank and Russ; three sisters, Mrs. Blanche Jones, Mrs. Anna Ruffcorn and Mrs. Mabel Christensen.

He farmed for many years near Blair and at the time of his death farmed near Craig, Nebraska.

Besides his family, he leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sidney McCaig at the Campbell Mortuary on March 1. Interment was at the Blair cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Herbert, Wallace and Robert Jones; Wesley and Pierce Wallace and Orville Wallace.
