CLIFFORD A. LARSEN, 89

Clifford A. Larsen, 89, of Blair, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Herman Community Church. Interment will be in the Herman Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Friday, Nov. 10, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Clifford A. Larsen was born Aug. 31, 1917, in rural Herman to Niels and Mary (Carlson) Larsen. He attended the Hill Creek and New England schools near Herman.

After high school, he worked on the family farm and did other odd jobs to help the family during the mid to late 1930s.

On Feb. 14, 1940, he married Carmen Andersen in Blair. At this time, Mr. Larsen operated the Standard Gas Station in Blair. The couple then moved to Omaha, where he worked for Roberts Dairy, delivering milk in the Dundee area.

After a few years, he pursued his love and passion for farming and moved back to Herman to begin his dream. The family lived and farmed in the Herman area until retiring and moving to Blair in 1983. Mr. Larsen had recently moved to the Johansen Manor retirement community, where he was enjoying his new friends, card games and social gatherings.

He was an active member of the Herman Community Church and previously served on the board. He was a longtime member of the Blair Eagles and was a volunteer at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

He enjoyed the outdoors, working in the yard, and playing handyman on anything that wasn’t quite right. Over the years, he also enjoyed playing cards, many times with the same group. He enjoyed vacations with friends and family in the early years and , more recently, was happiest going on scenic drives with his wife and hosting family over the holidays.

He was always thinking of others and was very generous of his time.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Al and Rita Larsen of Herman; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Gene Engelkemier, Huntsville, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-granchildren; and a sister, Jean Sorensen of Crete.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen; daughter, Judith Petersen; and sisters, June Miller and Vivian Fitch.

Memorials are suggested to the Herman Community Church Fund.
