Marvin Andersen, 82, of Fergus Falls, Minn., died Oct. 21, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were held Oct. 27 at Bethel Lutheran Church and interment was in the Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery, both in Fergus Falls.

Marvin Andersen was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Fort Calhoun to Herman and Lydia Andersen. He grew up in Nebraska, working on the family farm.

He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp Polk, La., and in Texas. After his discharge in 1943, he returned to Nebraska.

In 1944, he married Rosa Christensen in Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 1952.

Mr. Andersen worked for Royal Dairy in Omaha. He then married Donna Boggess and the couple moved to Erhard, Monn., where he worked for the Mid American Dairy, Elk River Concrete, Archies Surplus store and ran the Wee Town gas station and restaurant. The couple later divorced.

On Aug. 5, 1960, he married Frances Newborg; she preceded him in death in 1985. On July 13, 1986, he married Ellen Veddar in Fergus Falls.

Mr. Andersen loved to play in the Wee Willie Polka Band, which he established in 1961. He loved to bowl, watch sports, and birdwatching. He was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughters, Sharon Odegard, Beth Bethke, Corinne Haith; sons, Marvin Andersen Jr., Jason Andersen, Brooks Andersen; son-in-law, Rick Norgren; and a sister, Mary Rowlette of Independence, Mo.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Diana Norgren and Patricia Andersen.

Marvin Andersen, 82, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, October 31, 2003 at his home.

He was born November 19, 1920 in Neola, Iowa, the son of Herman and Lydia (Stulgies) Andersen. He grew up in Nebraska, working on the family farm and for other farmers. Marvin joined the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Camp Polk, Louisiana and in Texas. Following his discharge in 1943, he returned to Nebraska.

In 1944, he married Rosa Christensen in Nebraska. She died in 1952. He worked at the Royal Dairy in Omaha for a time. He married Donna Boggess and they moved to Erhard, where over the years he had an egg route, worked for the Mid Am Dairy, Elk River Concrete, Archies Surplus Store and ran WeeTown gas station and restaurant.

On August 5, 1960 he married Frances Thurnau Newborg. She died January 27, 1985. On July 13, 1986, he married Ellen Merkins Vedder at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Marvin loved to play in the “Wee Willie Polka Band” which he established in 1961 with Bill Makovsky, retiring from the band as drummer in 1996. He loved to bowl, watch sports, the Twins, Vikings and the Cornhuskers, enjoyed birdwatching and liked John Deere tractors. He was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church, the Underwood American Legion and was a member of the Eagles for 43 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two daughters, Diana Norgren and Patricia Andersen.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen of Fergus Falls; daughters: VonEtte (Jerome) Swenson Sr of Underwood, Sharon (fiancé Rick Stras) Odegard of Fergus Falls, Georgianna (James) Jacobsen of Texas, Ginger Newborg of Erhard, Corinne (Mark) Haith of Texas and Beth (Tom) Bethke of Arden Hills; sons: Virgil (Janie) Newborg Jr of Randolph, Marvin Andersen Jr of Detroit Lakes, Jason (Mary) Andersen of Ashby, Brooks (Pam) Andersen of Battle Lake, Michael (Angel) Vedder of Moorhead; a son-in-law, Rick Norgren of Underwood; one sister, Mary (Jerry) Rowlett of Independence, MO; 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and a special friend Jason (Amy) Severson of Underwood.
