CHRIS LARSEN IS DEAD AFTER FALL

ORUM RESIDENT, 93, HAD SUFFEERED BROKEN HIP; FUNERAL MONDAY

Hans Christian Larsen, 93, Orum farm resident for 63 years, died at his home Saturday morning, several weeks after breaking his hip in a fall. Well-known throughout the area west of Blair, Mr. Larsen had formerly been a farmer and landscape gardener.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the home, followed at 2 o’clock by services at St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Orum, of which he was a charter member. The Rev. G.A. Carlson of Omaha officiated, and burial was in Orum cemetery.

Born in Norup, Denmark, February 18, 1848, Mr. Larsen came to America in the spring of 1873 and had lived at Orum since 1878. He was married to Miss Marit Iverson of Madison, Wisconsin.

Surviving Mr. Larsen are his wife; one son, Martin Larsen of Orum; and three daughters, Mrs. Ed Hansen, Hannah and Louise Larsen, all of this county, the latter two residing at home.

LAST RITES FOR ORUM FARMER HELD MONDAY

Chris Larsen, Prominent Farmer, Reaches Age 93 Years

Hans Christian Larsen of the Orum vicinity passed away last Saturday, July 26, at his farm home where he had resided since 1878.

He had reached his 93rd birth anniversary on last February 18. He was born in Fyn, Denmark, and came to this country in 1873, and located in this county, and in 1878 he moved to the farm where he died. Sixty three years on one farm is his record.

Before coming to this country, he specialized in landscape gardening, and in his earlier days his home reflected his efforts in the beautiful shrubbery and trees and their arrangement.

On his arrival in this country he worked as a farm hand and also as a clerk in the H. W. McBride store, saving his earnings with the object in view of buying a home which he did in 1878. He was married to Miss Marit Iverson of Madison, Wisconsin. Four children with the widow survive. They are Mrs. Ed Hansen, Martin Larsen and Hannah and Louise, the latter two still at home.

Deceased was a man of deep religious convictions and was a charter member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Orum, and was always one of its staunch supporters. In his home life he was all that could be asked. Of a kindly disposition, he was an ideal neighbor and friend and will be missed by a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o’clock from the church, and interment was made in the Orum cemetery.
