DEATH CLAIMS HOWARD LARSEN

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9, at Lutheran Church of the Master in Omaha for Howard C. Larsen, 66, of 4503 Eastridge Drive, Omaha, who died June 7, 1982, at Clarkson Hospital as a result of complications of diabetes. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha.

The son of the late Harry and Katie Larsen of Kennard, he was a residential and commercial real estate developer and founder of the Millard Warehouse Company. He achieved business success in middle age after more than 20 years as a Washington and Burt County farmer, Trailway Bus driver and carpenter.

He began building homes in Lincoln between bus-driving jobs, and in the late 1950s, he gave up his Trailway job and moved to Omaha to undertake the development of Sunnyslope on a 179-acre farm in northwest Omaha.

He branched into the development of apartments; built the Millard Shopping Center, the first in that community; and developed Millard Heights and Sky Parks’ additions near the Millard Airport.

He entered the frozen food warehousing business in 1961. The Millard Warehouse Company, now headed by his son, Larry, owns and operates two warehouses in Omaha and one each in Lincoln, Des Moines and Denison, Iowa.

He was president of the Omaha homebuilders Association in 1971 and 1972. A private pilot and airplane owner, he served five years on the Nebraska Aeronautics Commission. He also served three years on the Omaha-Douglas County Health Board. He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, and one son, Larry Larsen; and two daughters, Carolyn Lewis and Kathleen Ulrich, both of Omaha. One sister, Vonieta Gottsch, Bennington; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren also survive him.
