Neal E. Walter, 80

Neal E. Walter, 80, of Blair, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at a later date, at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

Neal E. Walter was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Norfolk to Arthur and Irene (Wieboldt) Walter. He was a graduate of Dannebrog High School.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and served from Feb. 15, 1952, until Feb. 14, 1954. He then moved to Fremont, and worked for a contractor, painting bridges for three years, and then was employed by AT&T in Omaha for 30 years. He moved to Blair in 1995.

On March 7, 1957, he married Mary Nagel in Fremont. She died in 1994. He then married Sara Hansen on July 15, 1995, at Camdenton, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Sara; daughters, Angie Walter of Lebanon, Mo., and Annette Walter of Camdenton; step-daughter, Laura Houser of Springville, Ind.; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice Walter of Denver, Colo., Barbara Walter of Littleton, Colo., and Dorothy Walter of Omaha.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Blum; and three brothers, Lyle, Noel and Dale Walter.

Memorials are suggested to Memorial Community Hospital and Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, both of Blair, the Washington-Burt County Hospice, and Fremont Area Medical Center.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
