James H. Murray, 73

James H. Murray, 73, of Logan, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Community of Christ Church, 605 Weare St., in Woodbine, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Fouts Funeral Home, 501 Normal St., in Woodbine. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and prayer services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.

James Harold Murray was born March 27, 1939, to Earl and Freda (Cooper) Murray in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

He was raised in Missouri Valley and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1957. On April 5, 1959, he married Elaine Michael.

He drove a rock truck for many years and then purchased Logan Auto Supply in 1966. After running this store for 39 years, he sold it in 2005 and enjoyed retirement.

He was an active member of Community of Christ Church. He loved his church and helped with any function that needed help.

Mr. Murray also loved spending time with his family and going to all of the various activities. He enjoyed taking the grandkids to his pond for fishing and boating. At all of the family gatherings, Jim supplied the soft-serve ice cream for everyone to enjoy.

He served on the Logan City Council and served two terms as mayor.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Murray; and infant grandsons, Ben and Max Carlin.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Murray of Logan,; three children and their spouses, Barb and Dave Hanen of Lincoln; and Annette and Joe Carlin and Steve and Deb Murray, both of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; two sisters and their spouses, Roma and Ron Beebe of Blair and Kathy and Gary Michael of Missouri Valley, Iowa; sister-in-law, Diane Murray, of Missouri Valley; and many other relatives and friends.
