Elsa C. Greunke, 93, of Fremont, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 6, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Donald Levenhagen officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery, north of Arlington.

Visitation began Thursday, July 5, at Moser Memorial Chapel, and will be held at the church one hour prior to services.

Elsa C. Greunke was born May 10, 1908, in rural Arlington to John and Anna (Hilgenkamp) Knecht. She grew up in the Arlington area.

On Oct. 7, 1931, she married Max L. Greunke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Arlington until 1974, when they moved to Fremont.

Mrs. Greunke was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Arlington.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Dean and Janette Greunke of Plainfield, Ill., Kenneth and Marlene Greunke, Marlin and Eloise Greunke, and Lyle and Bev Greunke, all of Arlington, a daughter and son-in-law, Lila and Howard Scheer of Arlington, sister, Mary Echtenkamp of Wayne, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, Henry, Otto, Walter and Paul Knecht, three sisters, Martha Hokamp, Louise Hilgenkamp, and Anna Greunke, and two granddaughters.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Fremont.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
