Services for Greunke Wednesday

Funeral services for Max L. Greunke, a former Arlington farmer, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. Timothy Gierke and Rev. James Hahn will officiate.

A family prayer service is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Interment will be Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, north of Arlington.

Greunke, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 13, at Dodge County Memorial Hospital in Fremont. He was born June 16, 1908, in Drake, Missouri, and came to Nebraska in 1926. He farmed near Arlington until moving to Fremont in 1974.

He married Elsa Knecht Oct. 7, 1931, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She survives along with four sons, Rev. Dean Greunke of Aurora, Illinois, Kenneth, Marlin and Lyle Greunke, all of Arlington, one daughter Mrs. Howard (Lila) Scheer of Arlington, brother Emil of Fremont, ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Max Leo Greunke, the son of Carl and Louise (Heidbrink) Greunke was born at Drake, Missouri, on June 16, 1908. He was baptized June 21, 1908, and confirmed April 9, 1922, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Drake, Mo. He moved to Nebraska in 1926 and was united in Holy Matrimony with Elsa Knecht, October 7, 1931, at Arlington, Nebr. They farmed near Arlington and were members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They moved to Fremont in 1974 and became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He passed from this life, Saturday, October 13, 1984, at the age of 7 years. He is survived by his wife, Elsa; 4 sons, The Rev. dean Greunke, Aurora, Ill., Kenneth, Marlin and Lyle Greunke, all of Arlington, Nebr.; his daughter, Mrs. Howard (Lila) Scheer of Arlington; one brother, Emil Greunke, Fremont; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Otto, John, George, Julius, Theodore, Rudolph and Henry; and two infant granddaughters.
