Robert D. Ward of Ft. Calhoun Died April 16

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 19, for Robert D. Ward, 49, at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Rev. Levi Williams officiated at the 2:00 p.m. service and burial at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Organ music was provided by Clara Butterfield and soloist was Laura Dey.

Pallbearers were: Douglas Baker, Dale Rosini, John Folan, Gary Vannoy, Richard Jipp and Kenneth Weinrick. The rosary had been recited Friday night at the Sievers Funeral Home.

Bob, who has been a prominent over-the-road truck driver the past 20 years, died suddenly on Wednesday, April 16, of a coronary heart attack in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was on a regularly scheduled run and was waiting to have his cargo unloaded at the time of his death.

He was born November 13, 1925, in Creston, Iowa. He was the son of the late William R. and Jessie M. Ward. His early adult years were spent in Creston where he farmed and became known for his stock car racing.

He moved with his family from Omaha to Ft. Calhoun in 1969. He was proud of his job and the Big Rig he owned, but enjoyed being at home in Fort Calhoun puttering in his garden and yard.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, and Mark and Peggy at home, Bruce and Jerry of Ft. Calhoun, Carol Ann of Boston, Linda and Doug of Creston, Raymond of California and Steve of Michigan. He is also survived by two brothers, Ed of Creston, Jim of Lincoln, and by two sisters, Mary of Burlington, Iowa and Margaret Jean (Mrs. Larry Baker) of St. Edward, Nebraska and eight grandchildren.

He also leaves a host of relatives and friends.
