Leland J. Gregersen

Services were Wednesday, January 19, at First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, Iowa, for Leland James “Lee” Gregersen, 81, a retired Atlantic pharmacist who lived at Heritage House and who died January 16, 1994, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital. Rev. R. Michael McDowell officiated. Burial was in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Leland James “Lee” Gregersen was born May 21, 1911, in Elk Horn and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1928. He graduated from Drake College of Pharmacy in 1932.

He owned and operated a business in Blair, Nebraska, in 1938.

During World War II, he served in the Navy. Following service duty, he moved to Atlantic where he was associated with his father in the Gregersen Drug Store as a pharmacist. He retired in 1975.

He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post No. 43, BPO Elks Lodge No. 445, Pymosa Masonic Lodge No. 271, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Atlantic School Board of Education and the Atlantic Cemetery Board.

He married Alene Sutherland in Omaha September 5, 1940.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1985; his parents, Walter and Dagmar James Gregersen; a son-in-law, Jim Sykes and a brother-in-law, Floyd W. Norris.

He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Sykes of Atlantic; two grandsons, Lee J. Sykes and Wesley C. Sykes, both of Atlantic; a sister, An Norris of Madison, Wisconsin; two brothers and their wives, Otis and Elaine Gregersen of Audubon and Bud and Margaret Gregersen of Storm Lake, Iowa, and nieces and nephews.
