Services For Mrs. Ward To Be Thursday

Services for Charlotte Ellen Ward will be Thursday, February 3rd, at the Grace Methodist Church in Kennard. Rev. James Warn will officiate at the 2:00 p.m. service. Burial will be in the Kennard Cemetery under the direction of the Kramer Mortuary.

Charlotte Ellen Ward, long-time Kennard businesswoman, passed away Monday at the age of 76 in Omaha at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fred Kramer.

She was born in Kennard to Charles and Elizabeth Berry and grew up in that area. As a young woman she, along with her sister and brothers, operated Berry’s Store in Kennard. At one time she was also Postmistress in Kennard.

In 1942, she and her husband, the late Homer E. Ward, resumed operation of the grocery store known as Berry’s Store. She was active in the store until her retirement in November of 1969. Mr. Ward, a registered pharmacist, also owned and operated Ward’s Pharmacy until his death in 1948.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Sue) Hunter of Kennard; a son, Homer (Bo) Ward; sister, Helen Kramer of Omaha; brothers, Leslie Berry of Omaha and Charles Berry of Tekamah. Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
