David L. Horky, 66

David L. Horky, 66, of Blair, died Thursday, August 23, at his home with his wife, Marlys, at his side.

Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, August 27, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler of Omaha was in charge of arrangements.

David Lee Horky was born July 4, 1946, to Bernard and Irma (Ecker) Horky in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

He attended West Concord High School in Minnesota and graduated from West Bend (Iowa) Community High School with the Class of 1964. He received his B.A. degree in physics from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn., in 1968.

Upon his college graduation, he was commissioned as an Ordinance Corps second lieutenant in the U.S. Army on May 26, 1968. He served in South Korea near the demilitarized zone. He received his honorable discharge March 24, 1971, and continued to serve in the Army Reserves. Upon his discharge, he returned to Minnesota to work for Northwestern Bell.

He married Marlys Kemna on June 14, 1972, at West Bend’s Catholic Church.

The couple began their married life in Remsen, Iowa.

They moved to Blair in 1981. Mr. Horky was employed by Mid-America Computer Corp., a subsidiary of Huntel Systems, until his retirement in 2009.

The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past June.

He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair and served both on the Pastoral Council and as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed golf, the outdoors, and the company of friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys, of Blair; sons, Paul David Horky of Omaha and Brent Edward Horky of Jarvenpaa, Finland; daughter, Melinda Ann Guerry of Leage City, Texas; grandson, Jackson Wayne Guerry; granddaughters, Amelia Kate Guerry and Norah Elise Guerry; sister, Kathryn Bucher (Layne); brother, Jim Horky (Judy Seery).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Irma Horky; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Caroline Kemna.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The family will receive friends Sunday, 2-4pm at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, followed by ROSARY at 4pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Monday, 10am, St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
