Ruby M. Andersen, 92, of Exira, Iowa, died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 20, at the Exira Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery.

Ruby Malinda Phippen was born Oct. 26, 1913, on her parents' farm northeast of Exira. She was baptized at the Exira Christian Church and later, as a adult, became a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools northeast of Exira and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1931. She helped neighbors with child care and housekeeping for several years.

On Feb. 9, 1938, she married Nels Christian Andersen at the Exira Lutheran Church parsonage. They farmed east of Exira for a short time, then purchased a farm west of Exira. They operated the farm for many years until they retired and moved into Exira in the early 1970s. Mrs. Andersen enjoyed the comfort of her home until she moved to the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn in March 2003.

She was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church and a member of the Work Group. She was a member of the Exira Lions Club, the WAGS, the Garden Club, and several neighborhood and card clubs.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy "Dee" and Richard Sorensen of Irwin, Iowa, Marilyn and Ernie "Greek" Abariotes of Blair, Carl and Ken White of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, LaVerne "Andy" and Sue Andersen of Rapid City, S.D.; nine grandchildren and their families; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Jessen of Exira; sister-in-law, Bertha Andersen, also of Exira; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nels, who died in August 1983; two brothers and three sisters, Grace Saltszman; Lawrence Phippen, Earl Phippen, Olive Lorey, and Ruth Jessen.

Kessler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
