Death of Estimable Lady

Mrs. J. Everett Graham, nee Ethel Stewart, died at her home at Sterling, Colo., on Saturday, September 18, 1915, aged 31 years, following childbirth.

Deceased was a daughter of George Stewart, deceased, and was born and reared in this county. She was a sister of Mrs. Chas. Pilcher, Mrs. Delmar McCann, of Arlington, and Mrs. Joe Love, and was a cousin of Mrs. Minnie Miller, from whose home the funeral was held on Monday afternoon, the body having been brought here from her Colorado home in order that it might rest beside her parents in the family lot in the Blair cemetery, Rev. Warren of the Christian church, conducting the service.

Mrs. Graham left besides the husband, a little daughter, eight years of age and a baby one day old at the time of her death, beside numerous relatives in and around Blair.

Mr. Graham is a conductor on the Burlington road, running out of Sterling. Trainmaster Brennan and wife accompanied Mr. Graham and little daughter to Blair and attended the funeral. There were many beautiful floral offerings placed on the casket of the wife and mother, mutely testifying to the sympathy of many friends who presented them. A host of Washington county friends extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Mrs. Charles Pilcher will return to Sterling with her brother-in-law, Mr. Graham, and bring back to her home here, the tiny baby who was left motherless at its birth, and care for the little one until it is old enough for its father to take care of it. The baby’s mother was Mrs. Pilcher’s sister.

The body of Mrs. Jay Everett Graham arrived from Sterling, Colorado, Monday morning and the funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Millie Miller at 2 o’clock that afternoon, Rev. Frank warren, pastor of the Christian church, officiating.

Mary Ethel Stewart was born to Mr. and Mrs. George Stewart on the farm north of Blair Dec. 6th, 1884. After the death of her father she moved to this city with her mother and taught school for some three years.

She was married to Mr. Jay Everett Graham Oct. 2nd, 1905, and they made their home at Merna, Neb., until 1910, when they moved to Sterling. She died suddenly last Friday, four hours after giving birth to a fine boy, who is living and doing nicely.

Besides the husband and infant son she leaves a daughter, Threse, 8 years of age, to mourn the sudden departure of wife and mother. Also four sisters, Mrs. Joe Love and Mrs. Chas. Pilcher who live near this city, Mrs. Delmar McCann, of Arlington, and Mrs. M. Harder, of Howells, Neb., and one brother, Loftin, who was living with her in Sterling, all of whom were present at the funeral service.

Ethel Stewart Graham

Ethel Stewart Graham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Stewart, both well remembered pioneers of this county, was born April 12, 1884, on the old home place now occupied by Mr. Cleon Wilkins.

She was one of a family of five girls and one boy and she grew to womanhood and was educated in our midst. Always a lady and reared by Christian parents, she was a woman of excellent habits and character.

She taught school for a number of years previous to her marriage to Mr. J. E. Graham, which occurred October 2, 1995. To this union two children were born, one seven years old and the other but five days old. She died at her home in Sterling, Colorado, on September 17 and the body was brought to Blair for interment in the Blair cemetery. The funeral was held in this city and interment was made in the Blair cemetery where the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large congregation of relatives and friends.
