Betty L. Gregg, 80, of Fremont, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Interment will be in the Prairie View Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m.

Betty Lou Vasholz was born on Jan. 1, 1928, in Fremont to Louis (Ludwig) and Lulu Scheffler Vasholz.

She lived in Fremont before moving to California. She graduated from Manteca Union High School in 1946. She was a member of Rainbow Girls in California.

She met Francis C. Gregg on Sept. 17, 1955, in Gillette, Wyo. On Oct. 1, 1955, they were engaged and, after an eight-week courtship, they married Nov. 13, 1955. They lived in Arlington before moving to Washington in 1966. They lived in Washington until his death in February 1994. She lived alone until moving to Merrick Manor in Fremont in October 2004.

The couple had no children of their own, but “claimed” everyone else’s.

She was employed at a bank in California and was later employed as a substitute postmaster in Nebraska.

She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club in Washington and held several offices in the club. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was an artist and won several merits and awards for her paintings. She was also an animal lover.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Gregg, of Melstone, Mont., two nieces, four nephews, several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; “special cousins” of her husband’s, Glen and Virginia Cook of Gillette and their family; an aunt, Marian Scheffler of Salem, Ore., and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Forrest and Willard Gregg; one sister-in-law, Bernice Curtis Cooksey; and one niece, Glenda Musgrove.
