Sad Accident

Thursday afternoon of last week as the passenger train from Omaha came in sight, several boys were seated on the edge of the platform next to the track. They were warned to get out of their dangerous position, and all did so except a lad some nine years old, a son of Alfred Hester, whose home is near the depot. The little fellow was in the act of getting up when the step of the car caught one leg, grinding it against the edge of the platform and mangling the flesh in a terrible manner before he could be released. He was taken home and Drs. Palmer & Ryan summoned as quick as possible to stop the rapid loss of blood. They found no bones broken and he appeared so comfortable the next day that hopes were entertained that he would survive, but the shock and great loss of blood was too much for the young sufferer – he never rallied – and on Saturday passed peacefully away – the victim of another one of those fatal casualties which are bound to occur just so long as parents don’t take some effectual way to keep their children from the depot grounds. The railroad officials alone cannot prevent them. The funeral took place from the residence Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, Rev. Jacobs officiating, and the parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad affliction.
