June Warden, 83

Arlington native June Warden, 83, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died Sept. 14, 2009, at the Hospice House in Marshalltown while under the care of the Iowa River Hospice.

Services were held Sept. 16 at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. Interment was at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

June Spangler was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Arlington to Thurman and Hazel (French) Spangler. She graduated from Arlington High School.

On April 14, 1946, she married Ronald Warden in Arlington. The couple was active in public education and the Kiwanis international service organization.

Mrs. Warden worked in Marshalltown schools until her retirement in 1994. She was an avid reader, was interested in politics and sports, and loved little black dogs.

She was a member of Central Christian Church. She was a wonderful sister and friend, and will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, courage and dry wit.

She is survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Joan Kerkhoff of Rochester, Minn., Germaine and Darrell Johnson of Greeley, Colo.; brothers, Raymond Ludwig of Arlington; loving niece and caretaker, Michelle Brown of Arlington, Zella Yearigan of Des Moines, Iowa, Frieda Brown of Bellingham, Wash., Marea Werner of Janesville, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, in 1982; step-father; and brother, Lauren.

Memorials are suggested to Central Christian Church, the Iowa River Hospice, or the Humane Society of Marshalltown.
