L. D. Warrick

L. D. Warrick was born in Cuming City, Nebr., July 6, 1858 and was married to Miss Eliza Tyson, August 20, 1884 at Blair, Nebr. and to them one daughter, Mrs. Prentiss Smith, was born.

Mr. Warrick lived practically all his life in Cuming City township where he took an active part in the civic duties of the community, having been a member of the school board in his district for the past twenty years.

He was known as a quiet, conscientious citizen, scrupulously honest and attending strictly to his own affairs. Some years back he and his good wife took a boy, Walter Tuttle, son of John Tuttle, to look after and for nine years the lad made his home with them and at the death of his benefactor which occurred Sunday, January 18, he made it a point to be present and share with Mrs. Warrick the grief that the occasion brought.

Mr. Warrick joined the Baptist Church in Cuming City in early manhood and later transferred his membership to the Blair organization of which he was a deacon at the time of his death.

He has been in poor health for some years and a short time ago came to the Blair hospital for treatment but was later taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. L. Jager in this city where he died.

The funeral services conducted by Rev. D. Smalley of the Baptist church were held at the Baptist church on Tuesday at 2 P.M. and interment made in the Blair cemetery.

Besides the wife and daughter, he leaves to mourn him three sisters, Mrs. James Stapleton and Mrs. L. Jager, both of Blair and Mrs. M. Swanson of Crescent, Iowa.

The earthly career of Lincoln D. Warrick came to a peaceful close at about noon last Sunday. He had been very sick for some time but a paralytic stroke sometime Saturday night marked the closing day of his life. He had not been well for years, having high blood pressure from hardening of the arteries, then kidney trouble developed, followed by heart trouble, then the bursting of a blood vessel in the brain. He was at the Blair hospital for a few days and was then taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. L. Jager, who lives across the street from the Methodist church, where Death found him. The funeral was held at the Baptist church at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon, Rev. A. D. Smalley officiating, assisted by Rev. L. H. Camp, Mrs. Jager being a member of the Christian church. the church was filled with the many relatives and friends of the deceased who’s spent his entire life in this community. He was born in Cuming City July 6th, 1858 when that was a promising city. He grew to manhood there and was married to Miss Eliza Tyson in this city August 20th, 1884. They located on a farm in Cuming City township, so his entire life of nearly 66 years was spent in the township. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Prentice Smith. Also three sisters, Mrs. L. Jager and Mrs. Jas. Stapleton, both of this city, and Mrs. N. Swanson of Crescent, Ia. They raised Walter Tuttle, now of Florence, from the time he was nine years of age and he seemed like a son to them. Mr. Warrick united with the Baptist church at Cuming City in young manhood, later transferring his membership to the Blair church, being a deacon at the time of his death. He had served as moderator of the school board for over twenty years, which showed something of the confidence his neighbors had in him and the integrity of his life. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends. Washington county has lost one of its oldest and most respected citizens.

LINCOLN D. WARRICK

"Man’s days are as grass. Our light affliction worth for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;” and “dark clouds are passing but there is a silver lining.” These are but a few quotations . of many helpful thoughts presented by the Rev. A. D. Smalley at the funeral of Lincoln D. Warrick Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church in this city.

Born at the place known as Cuming City in 1858, our subject might well be considered a Washington county product in its truest sense. Historical facts of his life proclaim him as being public minded.

Early in life did he embrace religious ideas uniting with the Baptist church in the strength of young manhood. As he grew older in years his faith increased in the life to come. Many were the remarks of friends who voiced the sentiments the “a good man has gone from us.”

While the mortal part of this life is forever stilled, the character he had formed stands as an indestructible monument, and while the damp clods of the valley hides the form once known, his good deeds and acts of kindness will ever live in the hearts and minds of friends with hope wiping the tear from sorrow’s eye, while faith points upward to the sky” in realms of everlasting peace.
