Melvin Walrod

Melvin J. (Buck) Walrod, Arlington, died February 7, 1987, at Memorial Community Hospital, Blair. He was 74.

Services were held at 4 p.m., Monday, February 9, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home, Arlington. Rev. Dennis Maaske officiated. Organist was Mrs. Helen Hilgenkamp, and pallbearers were Ron Walrod; Bruce Walrod, Gerald and Alvin Loehr; Bob Burns, and Gary Campbell.

Additional services were held at 1:30 p.m., February 10, at the Calvary Presbyterian Church near Barnum, Iowa. Rev. Donald MacPeck officiated. Organist for the Iowa service was Ms. Vicki Julius, and soloist was Mr. Gordon Julius.

Military graveside services were conducted by members of the Manson American Legion Post 204.

Burial was at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Walrod was born November 17, 1912, in Webster County, Iowa.

He grew up in Moorland, Iowa, and attended school there. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II for three and a half years.

He worked at the Charlie Vaughn Company in Omaha as a brick layer for 30 years. He retired in 1980.

Walrod moved to Arlington in 1975, the same year he married Inez Warner in Council Bluffs. They were joined in marriage February 7, 1975.

He was a member of the Fremont Fraternal Order of Eagles 200; a member of the Fremont Presbyterian Church, and the American Legion Post 348, Fort Calhoun.

Survivors include his wife, Inez; a step-son, Don Hinkle of Omaha; a step-daughter, Mrs. Irvin (Charlotte) Easom of Adrain, Oregon; two brothers, Roy Walrod of Titonka, Iowa, and Wyman Walrod of Somers, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Hicks of Somers, Iowa, and four grandchildren.
