J. W. Emory Dies Suddenly

J. W. Emory, an old resident of this community, died very suddenly at his home in this city last Wednesday noon, after an illness of less than a week's duration. Mr. Emory, while having not felt well for the past two years, was up town the week before and feeling as well as usual. Friday he was confined to the house and his ailment pronounced inflammatory rheumatism, which attacked his heart and he passed away Wednesday.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the family home, Rev. Cabeen officiating and interment made in the cemetery east of Blair. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a number of sorrowing relative and friends.

Deceased was born in Lexington County, Missouri, April 16, 1851, and was married to Clara Lucinda Miller in 1872, coming to Nebraska with his young wife the same year and settling on a farm on the Papio, where he lived until the death of Mrs. Emory in 1890, after which he moved to Blair. In 1894, he was married to Mrs. Louise Davis of this city who still survives him.

There were six children by his first marriage, Frank, who died several years ago after having served in the army in the Philippines, Earl, who is in the west, Mrs. J. H. Melvin, of Billings, Mont., Mrs. George Foot, of Oakland, Anabell who lives at Herman and Edna who has made her home in Omaha for some time past, all of whom, with the exception of Earl, were here to attend the funeral.

Mr. Emery was a member of the Royal Achates Lodge and carried $2,000 insurance.

Emory, whose sudden death we noted in these columns last week, was held at the residence at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Rev. J. W. Cabeen officiating. Mr. Emory was born in Lexington County, Mo., April 16th, 1851, and was married to Miss Clara Miller in 1872, coming to Nebraska the same year, and settling on a farm on the Papio, where he lived until his wife died in 1890, after which he moved to Blair. In 1894, he was married to Mrs. Louise Davis, of the city, who survives him. There were six children by his first wife: Frank, who died several years ago while serving in the Philippines; Earl, who is in the west; Mrs. J. H. Melvin, of Billings, Mont.; Mrs. Geo. Foote, of Oakland; Anabelle, who lives at Herman; and Edna, who lives in Omaha. All but Earl were here to attend the funeral, also a brother, Chas. Emory, of Saunders County. Mr. Emory was a member of the Royal Achats Lodge and carried $2,000 insurance, $1,000 payable to his wife and $1,000 to Miss Edna.
