Virginia J. Maas, 94

Virginia J. Maas, 94, of Fremont, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 20, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Fontanelle Cemetery.

Virginia J. Braucht was born October 1, 1917, in Wisner to David and Daisy (Smith) Braucht.

She moved to Fremont and was a 1935 graduate of Fremont High School. She attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont.

She worked as a legal secretary for seven years.

On August 20, 1941, she married Emil W. Maas in Fremont.

After her husband returned from military service, the couple farmed near Scribner and later purchased a farm near Herman. She lived in Arlington for 10 years and had been living in Fremont for the past two years.

Mrs. Maas was a member of Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle, the Senior Center in Arlington and the Arlington Community Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Maas of Herman; daughters and son-in-law, Carole Kimberlin of Gainesville, Fla., Kathleen and Fred Stranglen of Omaha and Joyce Hughes of Farmington, N.M.; sister-in-law, Kathryn Maas of Scribner; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil, who died May 15, 1993; son-in-law, Gilbert Hughes; brother, Jack Braucht; sister, Frances Hain; and special friend, Floyd Ruppert.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established at a later time.
