JAMES M. LARSEN, 72
Services were Friday, June 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta for James M. Larsen, 72 of Alta, Iowa who died June 20, 1989 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park in Storm Lake, Iowa.
James M. Larsen was born August 13, 1916 in Blair. He was a 1934 Fremont High School graduate and graduated from auto body technical school in Omaha.
He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, including 15 months in Europe.
He was an auto body mechanic at Peterson Motors, Schwitters Body Shop and Andrews Body Shop, all in Storm Lake. He also worked for Alta Lumber Company in Alta before retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, serving on the church council, was a Sunday School teacher and a Luther League counselor. He was on the Alta City Council, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Pomegranate No. 408 and a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 6172.
He married Gladys J. Kruse April 12, 1943. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. David (Linda) Hoffman and Mrs. Edmund (Nancy) Silver, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two brothers, Allen and LeRoy, both of Fremont; a sister, Lucille Horacedk of Fremont; and four grandchildren.
